Message from GAPA President on HB557

Dear GAPA Members,

Today is an exciting day.  I am happy to announce that Governor Brian Kemp signed HB557. This gives physician assistants (PAs) as authorized by their job description and their delegating physician to prescribe 5 days of hydrocodone or oxycodone containing products to patients 18 years of age or older. This update to PAs scope of practice is a tremendous step forward to improving access to quality care for our patients across the state of Georgia.   I would like to extend a special thank you to GAPA’s Lobbyist, Sheila Humberstone and our PA Liaisons, Amy Reeves and Tina Hood for their hard work and persistence in seeing this legislation through.

Thank you,
LeAnne Martinelli, PA-C
GAPA 2023- 2024 President
