Why You Should Join GAPA
A profession needs a code of ethics, and a set of common wisdom. A profession needs a body of people who uphold those principles. A profession demands of us a higher standard; it requires us to self regulate, to support each other, and to make clear what it means to be a medical professional. Professions regulate themselves, teach themselves, and discipline themselves. Members of GAPA abide by all of the above. You are joining a profession when you enter PA school. You are joining a professional organization when you join GAPA.
Membership provides the practical information and useful services necessary to be an engaged and educated healthcare provider. When you join GAPA, you will receive benefits and services carefully chosen to complement and expand your disease knowledgebase.
Some of the specific benefits GAPA offers you as a professional member are:
- Get Problems Solved – Quickly
Having a problem at your job/with your supervising MD? Imagine if you had a whole army of peers whom you could turn to for advice, ideas and support. By joining GAPA, you´ll become part of a niche network of members, all facing similar challenges in their daily practice as you do.
- Get Training Needed For Your Specific Practice
Our bi-annual conferences not only seek to sharpen your overall skills as a practitioner, they go further in-depth to help you tackle the very industry-specific challenges you are faced with in your job every day. Through in-person conferences and lectures, GAPA offer informative, results-driven sessions presented by your peers and colleagues.
- Get Connected
GAPA provides a secure online website where members can seek advice on topics specific to their practice. Members also have quick access to an online membership directory, and in-person networking opportunities are offered each year at Section Conferences and at the PRSA International Conference. Each Section also offers a Web site, where members can learn about upcoming Section programs and initiatives, and access additional informational resources.
- Get Informed
Through our quarterly newsletter, members are kept abreast of the latest news and up to speed on issues facing our profession to include license renewals, legislation, new developments in the health care system, and more. Our newsletter provides the most up-to-date information on the PA profession in Georgia.
- Get Involved
Members have the opportunity to advance their network even further by becoming a volunteer leader. Participating on committees provides and enhances skills associated with management, delegation, marketing, and strategic planning. You´ll become directly involved in developing and implementing GAPA professional goals – a rewarding opportunity that will not only give you recognition among your peers, but a unique chance to contribute to the advancement of your specialized area of practice.
- Professional Development Locally
GAPA sponsors workshops for which official Continuing Medical Education (CME´s) units are offered. GAPA provides local educational and networking opportunities for members through regional dinner meetings. These sessions provide opportunities for GAPA members to enhance their professional practice. Additionally, GAPA encourages its members to participate in activities of mutual interest with other organizations.
- Discounts and Cost Savings
GAPA members enjoy a $150.00 savings on registration fees at the annual CME conferences (Fellow & Associate members). We also offer access to supplemental insurance policies through AFLAC at reduced association rates.
- Representation
GAPA is the only organization actively promoting the PA profession in Georgia via public education initiatives, regional meetings, active lobbying, and representation to the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners (CSBME) via the Physician Assistant Advisory Committee (PAAC). The organization also acts as a professional liaison with other important health care groups including the Medical Association of Georgia, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, the Georgia Hospital Association, CSBME, and more.
